On October 31, 2023, the Government adopted Emergency Ordinance no. 93/31.10.2023, which introduced changes regarding the gross minimum wage in certain key sectors of the economy.

These changes will have a direct impact on workers in the construction, agriculture, and food industry sectors.

Minimum Wage in the Construction Sector

The gross minimum wage in the construction sector will increase to 4,582 lei per month. It is important to note that this amount does not include allowances, bonuses, and other additional benefits that may be part of an employee’s total compensation package. This measure will come into effect starting from November 1, 2023.

Minimum Wage in the Agricultural and Food Industry

For workers in the agricultural and food industry sectors, Emergency Ordinance no. 93/31.10.2023 has established a new gross minimum wage of 3,436 lei per month.

Employers’ Obligation to Increase Minimum Wages

According to the new regulations, employers are obligated to implement the salary increases through additional agreements to the employment contracts of their employees. These agreements must reflect the new amounts of the corresponding gross minimum wages for each sector. Additionally, it is essential that these changes be recorded in the REVISAL system within a maximum of 20 working days from November 1, 2023.
