The minimum salary required for foreign employees obliged to obtain work permit in Romania (non-EU) decreased from average gross salary to minimum gross salary at level of economy, similar to Romanian employees.

For highly skilled job, the minimum salary required for non-EU foreign employees represents the amount equivalent of two average gross salaries.

The minimum gross salary in Romania in 2018 is 1,900 lei, while the average gross salary is 4,162 lei.

Starting from 1st of January 2019, the minimum gross salary will become 2,080 lei. For employees with university degree the minimum gross salary will be 2,350 lei.

This relaxation in conditions of hiring non- EU foreigners enables employers in Romania to explore opportunities from other labor markets such as some countries from Asia, Africa and South-America, while important number of Romanian employees still prefer to emigrate and work abroad.

Global mobility is a reality of business and workplace, opening window for opportunities and important challenges as well.
